Bottled water feels inexpensive one case at a time, which is exactly why the ongoing cost is easy to underestimate. Taste and quality: not a downgrade
One misconception worth addressing directly is the idea that bottled water is somehow a quality upgrade over tap water treated at home. In practice, a well-maintained residential RO system produces water that is comparable to, and in many cases indistinguishable from, premium bottled water in blind taste tests, precisely because both are working from the same basic principle of removing dissolved solids and chlorine taste. The difference is that RO water is available continuously, is typically less expensive per litre over time, and does not involve single-use plastic packaging sitting in a warehouse or delivery truck before it reaches your glass.
