An Alternative to Softening

Salt-Free Water
Conditioning

Not every home wants a salt-based softener. A salt-free conditioner treats hardness minerals so they resist forming scale — without adding sodium or requiring a drain connection.

How It's Different

Conditioning vs. Softening

A salt-free conditioner is a genuinely different technology from a traditional softener — here's what that means for your home.

🧂

No Added Sodium

Salt-free conditioners don't use salt-based ion exchange, so no sodium is added to your water — a common concern for sodium-restricted diets.

🚿

Scale Prevention, Not Removal

Instead of removing hardness minerals, conditioners alter their structure so they're far less likely to stick to pipes, fixtures, and appliances as scale.

🔌

No Drain or Electrical Needed

Most salt-free systems don't regenerate, so there's no backwash cycle, no drain line, and no electrical hookup required for installation.

🧺

Low Maintenance

With no salt to refill and no resin tank to regenerate, day-to-day maintenance is minimal compared to a traditional softener.

🧊 The System We Install

Watts OneFlow® Scale Control

As an authorized Watts dealer, we install the OneFlow® family of salt-free scale prevention systems. Rather than exchanging hardness minerals for sodium, OneFlow converts them into microscopic crystals that stay suspended in the water and pass through your plumbing instead of bonding to it as scale.

The whole-home OneFlow+ cartridge unit is rated for up to 10 gpm and installs inline — no drain line, no electrical hookup, and no salt to refill. For higher-demand homes, the tank-style OF948-16 and OF1054-20 models step the capacity up.

🤔 Is It Right for You?

Softening vs. Conditioning — Which Fits Your Home?

A traditional softener actually removes calcium and magnesium from your water, which is the most effective way to eliminate hard water buildup and its effects on skin, hair, and laundry. A salt-free conditioner is a lower-maintenance option focused specifically on preventing scale buildup in pipes and appliances, without changing the water's mineral content or adding sodium.

Since every home's water and priorities are different, we'll walk you through both options honestly during your free water test, based on your actual water hardness and what matters most to your household.
